When I was asked as a student to produce a self portrait I created a sculpture that was a Surfboard morphing into a Paint Brush. The inspiration came from the last lines of a poem that was written by Colin Mckinney in 2009, describing my approach to surfing. The last few lines really stood out to me, not because of the obvious complement, but as a beautiful description of the art that is surfing.
“… your canvas the ocean, drawing out moves for others to view, board is the brush, artist is you.”
